When my good friends Alex and Mickey approached me to photograph their Brisbane wedding I was so excited, not only did I know it would be one magnificent celebration but that their day would be full of their vibrant energy! Alex had a hand in every aspect of her wedding including styling her own table arrangements and by gosh, were they to die for! As their stunning rooftop ceremony was scheduled for sunset, we opted for a pre-ceremony photoshoot to accommodate. This modern wedding borrows from tradition whilst being completely original. The end result -a whole lot of colour, a grandma flower girl and one hell of a party. Their wedding album shows they are as gorgeous on the outside as they are on the inside. Thanks for having me Alex and Mickey – you guys are the best.

Brisbane is a wedding destination hot spot for locals and interstate couples alike. It’s not hard to understand why couples are choosing this city with its fabulous venue selection and Brisbane’s pristine weather. Hence, we were not at all surprised when Alex and Mickey hopped across from Melbourne for their wedding day and asked us to come along for the ride.

Brisbane is teeming with fabulous wedding venues to choose from. If your travelling from interstate then you could consider selecting an establishment that can not only accommodate your reception and ceremony (for less travel time between locations to maximize enjoyment) but can also provide accommodation for yourself and your guests.

Wedding days are often jammed packed with activity so your incredible day can be over before you know it! With everyone together at the same venue, planning a post-wedding day celebration, such as a yummy breakfast / cheeky mimosas session is easy! So you have decided you will be celebrating your love in the sun! Now how will you choose the perfect dress for the occasion? Our advice for couples considering a beach or even just a summer wedding is comfort! We really could not stress this enough. Your wedding day will be jammed packed with fun and although it’s a long day, chances are you will not stop! From photography sessions to getting down on the dance floor, your dress and shoes will no doubt need to be stunning but also practical in the heat!

If you plan to get married on the sand by that crystal blue water, why not give the shoes the flick! Instead, you could accessorize with a little ankle or toe bling, or at the very least pack a pretty pair of sandals/flats you can slip on in between the formal affairs.

If you are planning a destination wedding (even if interstate) you will likely need to be more organised. Get onto planning your photographer, flowers, caterers, makeup artists etc well in advance. Booking your photographer early and planning their travel arrangements and accommodation can save you a tone of money! More so, as you won’t be just in the next suburb securing your vendors early will give you the peace of mind that every detail is in place.

So your destination wedding is booked. Why not consider doing a pre-wedding visit? Interstate flights throughout Australia are often incredibly reasonable and the perfect excuse to get your bridesmaids together for a trip in the sun! You can book in your hair and makeup trial alongside physically visiting your wedding day venue whilst celebrating with your girlfriends. Any excuse for a quick vacation!
